About Rangghar

Rangghar, the registered Socio-cultural organisation based at Barpeta,Assam has over the years made significant contribution to the society by having taken up many a social and cultural programme. Our wide range of activities has made Rangghar a familiar name in Assam. The following brief will throw light on our various activities and programmes and tell why we have became a name to reckon with.
Every year the annual Rangghar Theatre Festival hogs the limelight in all the leading news paper. It is one of the most prestigious and well known theatre festival in Assam. We also received kudos for bringing out the audio cassette "ABIR" on assamese "Holi Songs", the first of its kind in Assam. We published a book titled "Barpeta Satra Aru Sanskriti" which has already been proved to be a landmark in the cultural literature of Assam. Since 1979, we have staged a phalanx of dramas. Most of them were lauded highly by critics. We were invited to stage palys in national and North-east theatre festival in many occasions by various theatre organisation like National School of Drama,New Delhi, Cutural Affairs,Assam (Govt.of Assam),Seagull (Guwahati),New Arts Players(Guwahati) etc. We were supported by Sangeet natak Academy,New Delhi,Ministry of Human Resource Development,Govt. of India,New Delhi,Ministry of Culture,Govt. of India,National School of Drama,New Delhi etc. in many occasions to support theatre related programme such as "Classroom Theatre", Theatre Workshop,Theatre Production,Theatre Seminar etc.
Campaigning against social evils like AIDS and Drugs is a responsibility we have shouldered with much aplomb. Also,in association with Assam state unit of Bharat Vikash Parishad, we organised a free artificial limb and caliper camps in many occasions at Barpeta. Our social activities ,such as helping the flood-narooned people, taking up cleaning campaign of the Barpeta Civil Hospital were also widely acclaimed.
Rangghar was awarded "Jyotirupa Media Award" in 2006 for it's outstanding contribution in the field of arts and culture as well as it's services to the society.
We have also created a theatre space called Rangghar Arena, first of its kind in Assam for the purpose of regular theatre activity.
We at Rangghar, have only contributed precise little towards the society and culture of Assam since Rangghar came to being (1979). But we have vowed to be instrumental in a big way in the upliftment of culture and development of society as whole in the years to come.........
