AJNATOBAAS

"AJNATOBAAS" by Nandikar ,Kolkata. Main attraction in "23rd National Rangghar Theatre Festival,2011"

Ajnatobaas revolves around an elderly dignified woman who had ‘lost’ her memory. A simple story – as it unfolds – slowly turns into a cliff-hanging thriller, a whodunit! Ajnatobaas, Nandikar’s latest is a major stage event of our time because of very many reasons.Stylistically the production begins on a normal ‘narrative’ track. But, in sync with the climactic turn of the story, the presentation switches over to videography and playfully blends back and forth theatre and cinema, resulting in a breath-taking finale.Thematically, Ajnatobaas is a parable of goodness in encounter with a crippling reality. Depicting the journey of a woman this play reveals that most of us have lost our ability to identify and welcome ‘goodness’ around us. A ‘good person’ is a ‘suspect’!Yet the play goes beyond this mundane meanness and we are gifted an awareness that ‘goodness’ like the rising sun, can dispel doubts and bring out the ‘good’ in all of us. Miracle indeed can happen within and around us.
